"Remember, I am with you always to the end of the age" (Mt 28:20)

Blessing Of Animals And Their Caretakers

S
t Basil the Great: O God, enlarge within us the sense of fellowship with all living things, for our brothers and sisters, the inarticulate beasts, to whom Thou gave the earth as their home in common with us.

We remember with shame that in the past we have exercised the high dominion of humanity with ruthless cruelty so that the voice of the earth, which should have gone up to thee in song has become a groan of anguish and a cry of torment.

May we realize that they live not for us alone, but for themselves and for Thee, and that they too love the sweetness of life. Amen.

The Hidden Blessings from God through our Animal Friends

When a pet runs to greet its caretaker at the door, its quiet message is: “Love is always ready to welcome.”

When it sits silently beside someone in sorrow, its silent word is: “Presence heals more than words.”

When it depends completely on its caregiver for food and shelter, its whisper is: “Trust is the foundation of love.”

When it plays, leaps, or purrs with joy, its witness is: “Life is a gift to be enjoyed.”

When it grows old or sick yet remains close, its testimony is: “Faithfulness endures to the end.”

Prayer of Blessing

We ask you to grant your blessings upon all of us—both those who give care and those who receive it. By the power of your love, strengthen the bond of friendship to flourish according to your plan. May we humans, together with all that breathes, always praise you for the beauty of creation. Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen.
